I own all three of these books and am so smitten, I just had to write a review for each! The Pattern book is fun as it is filled with non-traditional pattern artwork for painting. Many of the patterns stray from your standard coloring book paisleys and mandalas.... The author illustrates a funky chevron, a navajo inspired weaving pattern, baroque swirls, Moroccan medallions...One note on the watercolor paper used here: PLEASE don't judge the paper by its thickness. It is thinner than professional watercolor papers BUT is a powerhouse in terms of quality...I've been painting watercolor for years and was expecting to be disappointed with the paper used here but instead I was pleasantly surprised. This is a very nice book. It is printed on nice watercolor paper and the images are very pretty. One of the really nice things about this book is that at the front of the book it explains each type of design (what kind of design it is, what art era it came from, how it was inspired, etc) and it also gives you tips on how to paint it. There are a couple more books in this series and I cannot wait to order them.
Beautiful book. The artist has so much experience and is so willing to share her talents. There are many YouTube videos she has made to help beginners succeed. The book itself is stunning with real watercolor paper and oversized pages. So much thought went into them. I now have all three and hope to really learn to watercolor for fun!
Love all three of these Painterly Days books. The patterns in this one are great! Would recommend these to anyone looking for a coloring book, as you can use acrylic paint, colored pencil, watercolor, and many other mediums.
I love this book! the paper quality is top notch! I find myself getting lost in all of the patterns and I love the quotes. It is a very relaxing painting experience because you don't need to worry about sketching or drawing. This book is not just for artists but for anyone who wants to explore their creative side. I am happy with this book and would recommend it to others.
This is a unique coloring experience, printed on thick paper intended for watercolors. The patterns on each page run through a range of modern and ancient designs, each rooted in a standard design, yet rendered with an interpretive twist on each. They’re quite lovely. Each large page tears out without difficulty and is printed on both sides — one for practice, and one for keeps (if you like). The lines are what is really unique about the book, however. As you paint, the lines — which are a special gray ink — disappear in the water. Well, I should say that SOME of the lines will disappear, depending on how much water and brush-work is used. So what I ended up with is broader washes of color, with subtle, detailed patterns arising from the color, while gradually fading elsewhere. The overall effect is very lovely. I should note that several of the patterns are too detailed for my brushes (and heavy water use) to specifically color in the details. Regardless, it is a beautiful coloring experience, with results that I felt are truly ready to frame.
