This book was recommended for my daughter by her private lessons instructor. She completed the elementary book and has "graduated" to the intermediate book. The elementary book helped her very much in her success as a middle school player. I am sure the intermediate book will be just as helpful to her as a rising high school clarinet player. It is just as the description says.
This intermediate level of this series works perfectly within the series. Plenty of technical explanation with short musical examples to demonstrate and practice. Just enough work for the middle school player. Supplement with scale book and repertoire.
I bought the book to refresh my playing skills in between seasons. I found the book to be well structured and contained numerous useful exercises and solos. Even though I've been playing for years, I learned new fingerings that will be useful going forward
The book has several exercises to help you improve your speed, tone and technique. It also teaches you syncopation, trills, grace notes, and rapid tonguing. There are also solos, duets, and triplets you can play.
Great exercises, great tunes and easy to read and understand. I prefer the Rubank series over the large, heavy universal methods that often bury a student under tiresome, exhausting work.
As your students progress, this method book is a necessary addition to their library. It has all they need to develop tone, technique, and musicality.
This is a great book for solo learners or for some practice outside of the band room. But I did find that the fingering chart was a bit confusing at times even though it should be child's play.
I learned saxophone with these books a long time ago. Learning a new instrument brought back good memories of being in the marching band.
